People and the land through time
How the population, towns, farming, woodland, industry and climate of the British Isles changed over the centuries, and how each shaped the others. Every graph names its source and licence; open notes for how the figures were made and how sure they are. Early figures are estimates: dashed lines are modelled, and shaded bands show the range the source gives. The same graphs open beside the map from 📈 Change over time on the Map, where they follow the year slider.
What the graphs show together
Short notes on how the series line up, for example plague against population or coal against CO₂. Every claim about causes is quoted from published research, with a link to the source; where scholars disagree both sides are quoted.
