British Isles Oldest Buildings

Data quality

Where the data is incomplete. Records with a Wikidata item link straight to it, so gaps can be fixed at the source (and flow into the next rebuild). Corrections you make in a building's detail view are stored locally in data/overrides.json.

Research checked against its sources

Every history event and every researched "oldest of its type" claim was checked automatically: the cited source was fetched and searched for the stated year and name. "Year not found" does not mean the claim is wrong (the source may give it in words or as a century) but those entries deserve a manual look.

Not checked yet: run python -m bidb.verify_research.

Researched claims

Claims researched in original and published sources (data/curated/evidence.json): each source with its kind, where in it, and an exact quote that is looked for in the source again (python -m bidb.evidence --check). The quotes are checked automatically; the judgements are not.

No researched claims yet.

Pronunciations

How many records have a pronunciation of their own or of the town they are in, by variety, and hard-looking names that still have none (worth adding to the Wikipedia article or Wikidata item). Built with python -m bidb.pronunciations.
